‘To Answer Questions’: Fabrizio Romano Gives Verdict on Liverpool Future for ‘Special’ £200K-A-Week Midfielder

Thiago Alcantara

Liverpool are not looking to sell Thiago Alcantara to Fenerbahce, confirms Fabrizio Romano. The midfielder remains a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad as he recovers from his injury and aims to be back for the end-of-season blitz.

Romano Clarifies Thiago Future at Liverpool

It was reported by Turkish outlet Fotomac that Fenerbahce had showcased their interest in signing the Spanish midfielder – with the Turkey transfer window nearing its closing period. They are looking to sign a new number eight, the report claimed, and eyed Thiago as an appropriate option for that role.

However, Romano has dispelled all these reports and insisted that there have been no talks between any of the parties over a potential transfer. Thiago remains focused on his future at Anfield and is committed to Klopp’s project with the Reds.

Romano tweeted: “To answer many questions: there are no chances, no contacts and nothing true into the links between Thiago Alcantara and Fenerbahçe, despite links in Turkey. Thiago Alcantara is only focused on the Liverpool project.”

Liverpool are going to continue with the current squad until at least the end of the season, when they are likely to sign new players (including a possible new midfielder) as well as offload some of the unnecessary ones from the squad.

Thiago’s Time at Liverpool Recapped

The 31-year-old arrived at Liverpool from Bayern Munich in 2020 and had a tough debut campaign – before bouncing back from the 2021/22 season onwards. Thiago – who is rumored to earn wages of around £200,000 a  week – has gone on to make 93 appearances in his career for the Reds, scoring three goals and providing six assists across all competitions.

Despite being slightly injury-prone, the Spaniard has added a lot of creativity and efficiency to Klopp’s side and helped improve their playing style as well. He’s loved by almost everyone in the team, with Andy Robertson praising him as a ‘special player’ after Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Manchester United at Anfield last season. Thiago has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season, providing one assist.
