Spurs are lacking in quality options in the right-back area, which is why the decision-makers at the club are aiming to improve Antonio Conte’s defensive line by signing the Spanish full-back. Romano adds that their first offer included an undisclosed guaranteed fee alongside one player in exchange for Porro’s acquisition.

However, Sporting were not convinced by this proposal and have rejected the offer. Negotiations are set to continue between the two clubs, but the Portuguese giants ideally want the Premier League side to pay up his entire £39.3 million release clause for them to let him go midway through the season.

What helps Spurs’ case is that Porro is keen on a move to North London because he wants to play against the world’s best in the Premier League. It was also reported recently that they’ve held talks with the 23-year-old over a potential deal as well. The Lilywhites will, although, have to produce a much better offer to convince Sporting to let the defender leave soon.

Porro’s Eventful Career So Far Detailed

The 23-year-old full-back has already played in multiple leagues in his career and even joined Manchester City in 2019 after an impressive spell at La Liga club Girona. However, he never made a Premier League appearance for the Citizens, being loaned to multiple clubs before being sold to Sporting last summer.

The Portuguese side signed him for just over £7 million and are now trying to make a major profit on his sale after his impressive campaign with them. In 23 appearances in all competitions for them, Porro has scored two goals and provided 12 assists – which has really earned the attention of Spurs. But the Lilywhites will not have it easy to sign him and will need to make a better offer for the 23-year-old to fix their problems on the right wing.
