Manchester United Forward Erik ten Hag ‘Sees Future In’ Receives January Loan Offer From Championship Playoff Hopefuls

Facundo Pellistri

Manchester United are considering the prospect of sending Facundo Pellistri out on loan in the January transfer window, confirms The Athletic. The Uruguayan winger made his official debut for the club in their 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday.

Facundo Pellistri Wants Manchester United Stay Amid Loan Offers

Pellistri to Have Meeting With United to Discuss Future

Despite getting very little game-time under Erik ten Hag this season, Pellistri still wants to stay at Old Trafford for the entirety of the campaign. Journalist Jonathan Shrager states that he wants to showcase his value to the team by staying put and fighting for more minutes with the Red Devils.

The Athletic adds that Pellistri is finding interest from Watford, but he isn’t overly keen on a move to the Championship side who are vying for Premier League promotion this season. He would probably be assured of more regular game-time with the club, which is not the case for him with United right now.

It’s also stated that Pellistri’s representatives have asked for an immediate meeting with the directors at Old Trafford to discuss the club’s plans for the winger, in which they hope to discover how all the relevant parties sees the situation around the Uruguayan winger. The matter over his situation is also going to be discussed by director of football John Murtough, and technical director Darren Fletcher – who have an influential role in making loan deals and will talk about the situation with Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag Impressed With Pellistri’s Debut

As noted earlier, the 21-year-old made his official debut for United in the game against Charlton – which was also incidentally his first competitive appearance under Erik ten Hag. He managed to grab an assist for Marcus Rashford’s first goal in the second half which impressed the manager.

The Dutchman praised his heroics and even claimed that Pellistri ‘has a future’ at the club as well. This could be encouraging for the Uruguayan winger, but he is still not exactly guaranteed to play regularly for the Red Devils because of Antony’s stronghold in the right-wing and with Jadon Sancho to compete for the position upon his eventual return too.

Pellistri has had two loan spells (both with La Liga club Alaves) since he joined United in 2020 and it remains to be seen if he’s going to stick around to enjoy his first full campaign with the Manchester giants or leave on loan to get a new experience in the second half of the season.
