‘Done and Completed’ Fabrizio Romano Issues Big Manchester United Transfer Update With Youngster Labelled ‘The Real Deal’ Set to Leave

Manchester United youngster Tahith Chong, who has been called the “real deal“, is close to signing for Birmingham City, according to Fabrizio Romano. The 22-year-old spent the 2021/22 season impressing while on loan at the Championship side but could now join the club on a permanent basis.

A Familiar Face Returns to St Andrew’s

The Netherlands U21 international made 16 senior appearances for the Red Devils since arriving from the Feyenoord youth system in June 2016. Birmingham took the youngster on loan following two spells in Europe with Werder Bremen and then Club Brugge in the 2020/21 season.

Chong impressed in 20 Championship appearances last term despite suffering a groin injury that kept him out of action for four months. The winger was in the last year of his contract at Old Trafford so it looks like the club have decided to get what they can now instead of potentially losing the player for free.

Simon Stone of BBC Sport has reported that the player will sign a five-year contract at his new club with the transfer fee in the region of £1.5 million. The Dutchman will undergo a medical prior to sealing his move to St Andrew’s. The youngster will join United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri at Birmingham who is on loan from Old Trafford.

Birmingham will be hoping to have their new man available for their next fixture when they take on Preston North End at Deepdale on Saturday, September 3.
