Everton vs Chelsea Predictions and Best Odds for Premier League Opening Day

The Premier League season is back underway and Chelsea are set to renew vows with former manager Frank Lampard for Everton vs Chelsea on August 6, 2022.  The two teams will battle it out at Goodison Park to grab the three points and start off their campaign on a strong note.

Everton vs Chelsea Betting Odds & Predictions

Everton Current Run of Form

Like their opposition, The Toffees have had a mixed pre-season. They also suffered defeat at the hands of Mikel Arteta’s men but even more worryingly, were beaten 4-0 by MLS side Minnesota United.

They steadied the ship a bit to win their final two games against Blackpool and Dynamo Kyiv, but not before their own manager accepted they would be in a relegation battle this season.

Chelsea Current Run of Form

The Blues are coming into this game off the back of a so-so pre-season that included an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Arsenal that saw manager Thomas Tuchel state that his team wasn’t ready.

Since that defeat to the Gunners, the side won two friendlies against Udinese comfortably and seemed to find their footing.

Recent Head to Head

While Chelsea may go into this one as favourites, they have lost their last four away matches at Goodison Park. The Londoners have found it tough to put goals past the blue side of Merseyside as Everton have kept five clean sheets in their last nine games with Tuchel’s side.

Another thing to consider is that Lampard’s side are unbeaten on opening day for the last ten seasons, totalling four wins and six draws. Queens Park Rangers in 2011 were the last team to beat them on the first day of the league.

Everton vs Chelsea Predictions

Despite the new additions to the team, there’s an overwhelming sense that Todd Boehly and co. are still trying to build a winning squad. Marc Cucurella has now arrived but other targets Josko Gvardiol and Wesley Fofana have had little movement.

With a group of players that may not be complete, a four-match away game losing streak, and the Toffees’ unbeaten run on opening days it is tough to see a way for Thomas Tuchel and his side to get the win here. A draw is certainly possible, but we’d have to lean towards an Everton upset in this one.

Current Odds: Everton vs Chelsea

According to SkyBet, the Blues are the favourites to win at 3/5 odds as of this writing. At 19/4 the home team are a way off according to the punters but this may be a major oversight on their part given the recent history between the two teams.

If you’re feeling extra risky then there are some special bets available including a tasty 50/1 bet for Raheem Sterling to score in a 2-1 win for his new home.
