United are also planning to continue talks with the youngster’s agents in the coming days, with hopes of securing a deal before the end of the transfer window.
Benjamin Sesko Attracting Interest Across Europe
United Facing Competition for Striker’s Signature
Reputable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano issued an update on the situation on his podcast, saying: “This week will be important for Benjamin Sesko. Manchester United are really keen on signing him.
“There were direct contacts with his agents last week and the week before. New direct contacts by United are planned this week.”
He confirmed that Sesko is now garnering attention from other teams, adding: “Other clubs are also jumping into the Sesko Saga. This is why this week will be important.”
Romano also reported that Salzburg are reluctant to let their player go this summer and would have preferred to sanction a move in 2023, meaning United will have to push and meet their demands if they want to complete a deal this summer.
Manchester United are still exploring Benjamin Šeško deal. No official bid yet, but approaches with player side continue as revelaed earlier in the week. 🔴🇸🇮 #MUFC
RB Salzburg plan has always been to sell Šeško in 2023 – not an easy one, but he’s definitely on Man Utd list. pic.twitter.com/24CrHypux0

Benjamin Sesko: A Rising Star
At only 19 years old, Sesko has shown the telltale signs of a prolific striker in the making. In the Austrian Cup last season, he played five matches and five goals.
The 2021/22 Austrian Bundesliga campaign saw the teenager play 24 games and score five goals. He’s looking to improve his tally already though, as this season he has netted once and assisted once in two appearances. He has experience of playing at the highest level in Europe with Salzburg and has already scored his first Champions League goal.
Sesko represented his national side, Slovenia, at senior level for the first time last season as he played in the side’s World Cup Qualifiers.
The Austrian side were able to tie down the star to a five-year contract extension in July 2021.
Erik ten Hag Looking for Forward Depth Amid Cristiano Ronaldo Speculation
It comes as no surprise that United are in the market for a forward, especially following the reports of Cristiano Ronaldo’s desire to leave earlier in the window.
Whilst the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s situation remains unresolved, and with his agent actively seeking a new club for his star player, Erik ten Hag is looking in the right direction with a young forward to provide depth to his squad.
Throughout their pre-season fixtures, the Reds have regularly started games with French forward Anthony Martial deployed up front. Aside from Ronaldo, Martial is the only experienced natural striker in their first-team squad – which is concerning given his struggle to hit continuous goal-scoring form in a United shirt.
Sesko would provide a younger alternative who is eager to prove himself in a top league. He has the chance to be even more prolific when linking up with the skilful Jadon Sancho and assist king Bruno Fernandes.
