Former Manchester United Midfielder Set to Make Decision on Next Club

Jesse Lingard

Former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard will make a decision on his new club next week, reports The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

Lingard is said to be considering an offer from a club in Saudi Arabia which could see him pocket £10 million per year.

However, he does also have three proposals from the Premier League, and it would be his preference to stay there.

Return to West Ham?

If Lingard were to stay in the Premier League, a move to West Ham United would make the most sense.

The Englishman enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Hammers in 2021, scoring nine goals in 16 games which helped to secure their place in the Europa League.

The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas reported last month that West Ham had opened talks with Lingard over signing on a permanent deal.

However, no offer was ever made and Lingard has remained free to explore other options as well as re-joining West Ham.

No MLS Move

Another option was to move to MLS and one such option that emerged was linking up with Wayne Rooney at DC United.

Phil Haigh of Metro reported that DC were in talks with Lingard for him to join up with his former Manchester United teammate, who took on the head coach role there after leaving Derby County earlier this summer.

However, Ornstein states that Lingard will not be going to MLS as he wishes to remain in the Premier League.

There’s no doubt that Lingard has the quality to still be a Premier League player, but his ability to show that on a regular basis could be brought into question.

He found it hard to make a mark at Manchester United but the form he showed at West Ham, and quite often in the national set-up for England too, means he could be a welcome addition to many sides in the top flight still.
