According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have set their sights on a new Ajax defender this summer with a bid already submitted by the club. With Jurrien Timber set to stay within Amsterdam, Erik ten Hag and his side have now set their sights on Lisandro Martinez, who was an Arsenal target earlier in the window. Manchester Evening News are reporting that the bid for Martinez is worth £37 million.
Manchester United Target New Ajax Defender
While the Red Devils continue to look at new signings, they have moved on quickly from Jurrien Timber after a move for the 21-year-old couldn’t be completed. They have not moved far however as they are once again aiming to pick up a player from Ten Hag’s former club.
With Frenkie de Jong, Antony, Timber, and now Martinez linked with moves to Manchester it would appear that Ten Hag’s wishlist involves a number of reunions with former players. How many are actually signed may be a very different story with De Jong talks taking up a large chunk of the transfer window so far.
As mentioned earlier, Arsenal were previously linked with a move for the Argentine defender as they, and a number of other Premier League clubs, search for new defensive reinforcements. Based on this report, we will see two Premier League sides tussle it out for the signature of the in-demand 24-year-old.
The 13-time Premier League champions are seriously re-tooling their squad this summer based on the sheer number of players they’ve been linked with but they need to start getting moves done as they have too many plates spinning at once. This distraction could affect their chase of Martinez as their North London-based rivals have all eyes on the Ajax defender while Manchester United continues to chase a number of targets.
