What Does Viera Bring to Arsenal?

Viera is predominantly a central midfielder who can operate out wide or as a false nine. Arsenals’ new recruit has exceptional ball retention abilities. The young Portuguese playmaker has superb vision, and his passing is always decisive. As proven this year, he is also more than capable of chipping in with goals.

Viera is adept at keeping the play ticking over with five-yard passes, but he’s not afraid to try the spectacular passes, which have benefited Porto immensely this season. He will bring a vast amount of versatility to the Arsenal attack. The ex-Porto stars’ stats are impressive, but the Premier League will undoubtedly provide a sterner test for this young Portuguese playmaker.

Arsenal lacked a winning mentality last season, with a semi-final defeat in the Carabao Cup to Liverpool, and a disappointing exit in the third round of the FA Cup to Nottingham Forest. Alongside their domestic cup disappointments, The Gunners fell away in the league, finishing fifth, thus missing out on vital Champions League qualification.

After last season’s disappointments, Arsenal needed to improve the quality and mentality of this squad. Despite only being 22 years old, Viera brings a much-needed winning mentality to the Emirates with his two Portuguese League titles and his Portuguese Cup winners medal. Alongside his titles with Porto, he has several individual awards including Player of the Tournament at the 2021 UEFA European U21 Championship.

Arsenal have pulled off a major coup attracting a player of Viera’s ilk. He’s a promising signing who brings more creativity and versatility to Arsenal.
