Newcastle United Set to Get Their Man

Fabrizio Romano reports that Newcastle have been pushing for Ekitike for months following negotiations in January.

This season, the young striker has managed to score 11 goals and provide four assists in 26 appearances for the Ligue 1 side. Reims finished around mid-table in 12th.

Ekitike made his debut in October 2020 before a loan spell with Vejle in Denmark. He scored three goals for the Danish side before returning to Reims and becoming a regular in 2021/22 – announcing himself as a prospect to the whole of Europe.

Romano states that Hugo Ekitike was on Borussia Dortmund’s shortlist as they looked to avenge the loss of Erling Haaland to Manchester City.

However, Ekitike is set for a move to the North East of England with the Magpies, whose fans have been given newfound hope following a change in ownership.

Eddie Howe, who took over in the middle of the 2021/22 season, led them to an 11th place finish after a huge upturn in form and, with the money he is able to spend, the club and its fans will be hoping to rise further up the table as time goes on.

Ekitike is a France U20 international and will be a welcome addition on Tyneside.
