Tottenham Hotspur Enter Race to Sign Manchester City Forward

Manchester City Forward

Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus, according to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath.

Should they pull the transfer off, it would see them beat Arsenal to yet another huge asset after securing a place in the Champions League places on Sunday’s final day, with Arsenal, who are also chasing the Brazilian, settling for Europa League football.

Tottenham’s Interest

Spurs boss Antonio Conte will be looking to strengthen his side for Europe’s elite competition that awaits them next season. There’s no question that Tottenham’s best players are Harry Kane and Son Heung-min and Gabriel Jesus’ potential arrival probably won’t change that. However, he is a player that can add to the dynamic there. Even Dejan Kulusevski has arrived and thrived alongside them – scoring five and assisting eight in 18 Premier League games.

Spurs perhaps have other areas to strengthen too but if they add Jesus he adds a degree of lethality to their attack. He can fill in anywhere across the front line and give Spurs extra options for goals. Of course, injury often catches up to Harry Kane at some point in the season too and Spurs have regularly been under-represented in that position when that does happen.

Jesus has 25 goal contributions in 41 Manchester City appearances this season and is not going to accept becoming a bench option after the signing of Erling Haaland.

He told ESPN, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano: “My future is still uncertain. I have already expressed my desire to Man City people and to my agent.  I have in my head very clear what I want.”

Romano adds that Jesus wants to leave and is not going to extend his contract with the Premier League champions.

Arsenal have already held talks with Jesus’ agent but Spurs surely hold an advantage with Champions League football on offer.
