Manchester United Confirm Exit of Striker Edinson Cavani

Striker Edinson Cavani

Manchester United have confirmed that striker Edinson Cavani will be departing the club following two seasons at Old Trafford.

The Uruguay international made 59 appearances for the club, including 41 in the Premier League, and scored 17 goals across all competitions.

Striker Edinson Cavani to Leave Manchester United in the Summer

Cavani to Bid Farewell to Manchester

Cavani joined United from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer prior to the start of the 2020/21 season. The 35-year-old enjoyed a relatively successful first season at the club netting 10 times in 26 appearances in the Premier League.

Sadly, Cavani’s second season in Manchester was marred by injury as the striker only managed 15 appearances in the Premier League and two league goals. More significantly, the return of club legend Cristiano Ronaldo at the beginning of the 2021/22 season saw the Uruguay international fall down the pecking order at United.

While at the age of 35 it appears as if Cavani’s career could be coming towards its conclusion, however, it’s likely that there will be some clubs that could use the services of a player that was once the most prolific goal-scorer in Europe.

Wholesale Departures at Old Trafford

With the arrival of new manager Erik Ten Hag, the club will likely be looking to make some wholesale changes to a squad that managed to miss out on Champions League football for the first time since the 2018/19 season. Cavani looks to be the first name on the list of players to depart the club.

Paul Pogba is another player whose contract expires in the summer and a stay in Manchester is looking increasingly unlikely. Jesse Lingard and fellow midfielder Nemanja Matic are also both out of contract this summer, with Matic already confirmed as leaving and Lingard expected to follow.

With a new era about to get underway at Old Trafford, it could be an interesting summer for United as they look to find their way back to the Champions League and Premier League contention.
