Paul Pogba Transfer ‘Discussed Internally’ as Solution to Manchester City Midfield Problem

Paul Pogba Transfer

Fabrizio Romano has given an update on the future of Paul Pogba, revealing that Manchester City are one club that are keeping an eye on the Frenchman.

He reported: “Manchester City will sign a new midfielder once Erling Haaland saga’s over. Paul Pogba has been discussed internally as @MikeKeegan_DM reported – still nothing advanced, PSG also in the race.”

Manchester City in the Race for Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba Transfer Latest

Paul Pogba is out of contract at Manchester United this summer and is not expected to be at Old Trafford next season. Pogba has been free to talk to clubs since January and after a struggling season on and off the pitch, it is likely Manchester United will part ways with their club record signing.

Mike McGrath from the Telegraph reported recently that Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid were planning talks with the Frenchman, although no official contract proposals had been made. Romano reported that Paris Saint Germain are also in the race to sign the 29-year-old.

Pogba has likely played his last game for the Red Devils. Having started the season so brightly, with seven assists in the opening four league games, for both United and Paul it’s been downhill. The Frenchman has been at United since 2016 and has had a torrid time with injury. For both him and the club, it has been overall a disappointment, and it seems like the right time to move on.

‘Welcome to Manchester’

However, from Manchester United to Manchester City is a massive potential move. Carlos Tevez made the same move in 2009, having been disappointed with not being offered a new contract. It marked the start of increased hatred between the two Manchester giants, with Manchester City’s ‘Welcome to Manchester’ posters winding up Manchester United fans. City manager at the time, Mark Hughes, said the campaign was meant to annoy Sir Alex Ferguson.

Pep Guardiola will be looking for a world-class midfielder to replace Fernandinho after the Brazilian confirmed he would be leaving the club this summer. World Cup winner Paul Pogba definitely has the ability to play for Manchester City but it will be interesting to see whether City can persuade Pogba to go across enemy lines.
