Juventus to Make New Midfield Signing This Summer

New Midfield Signing

Juventus are determined to make a new midfield signing this coming summer, according to Fabrizio Romano. Their plan is clear as they want major upgrades in the position. This comes as no surprise as the midfield has been a source of strength for Juventus for much of the last decade. The last couple of seasons, however, have been a different story.

Juventus Planning New Midfield Signing

The Current Midfield

Juventus’ current crop of midfielders includes the likes of Manuel Locatelli, Weston McKennie, Denis Zakaria, Arthur, and Adrien Rabiot.

Rodrigo Bentancur was a mainstay for some time but recently departed to Tottenham Hotspur. Zakaria was brought in as a replacement, but he’s still adjusting to his new club. McKennie was performing quite well this season before recently suffering a season-ending injury.

Juventus still lays claim to a number of midfielders out on loan. This list includes the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Rolando Mandragora, and Mohamed Ihattaren. The club does not see these players as immediate upgrades next season. Ramsey never impressed, Mandragora’s top talent is lacking, and Ihattaren is still rather inexperienced.

Locatelli looks to be Juventus’ top option. He’s playing well this season and keeping the team afloat in Serie A and the Champions League. McKennie will surely return as well. Before the injury, the American was one of the team’s most consistent players. Zakaria, Arthur, and Rabiot look to be interchangeable.

It’s easy to see that a true game-changer is missing. Gone are the days of a midfield with the likes of Andrea Pirlo, Paul Pogba, Arturo Vidal, and Claudio Marchisio. Juventus was at the top of both Italian and European football with that midfield unit. They will surely be looking to add a player of that calibre. The team’s pockets run deep as well, as seen in their transfer for young striking sensation Dusan Vlahovic.
