Sevilla defender Diego Carlos has agreed personal terms ahead of a move to Newcastle United, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 28-year-old is set to become Newcastle’s third addition of the January window following the arrivals of Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid and Chris Wood from fellow English side Burnley.
The deal, which is reported to be around £30 million, will see Carlos leave the side currently second in La Liga for Eddie Howe’s Premier League strugglers, who have won just once all season.

Romano reports that Carlos will be heading to the North East of England on a five-year contract. There is no indication of whether a relegation clause will be involved.
Sky Sports reported earlier this week that the Brazillian had told the hierarchy at Sevilla he wanted to leave the club to make the move to Newcastle.
The club are also hoping to sign another centre-back in this window as they aim to fix a defence that has conceded 43 goals already this season – the second-worst total in the league.
Sevilla, meanwhile, boast the best defence in La Liga having only conceded 13 times in 20 matches – five better than current leaders Real Madrid.
Sven Botman had been a target but that deal has collapsed after Lille rejected all of Newcastle’s advances for the 22-year-old. Meanwhile, Benoit Badiashile of Monaco was also being considered at around £50 million before suffering an injury against Nantes.
