Chelsea Women Win 2021 FA Cup

Wembley Stadium was home to a clash of titans as the Women’s Super League’s top two teams clashed in the final of the FA Cup. Chelsea women went in looking to avenge their 3-2 defeat to Arsenal from early in the WSL campaign. The Blues outclassed their North London opposition to claim the big 3-0 win. This marked the first time they have won the FA Cup since 2018, where they also beat Arsenal and scored three goals in the process.

Early Lead Set the Blues on Their Way

Chelsea took an early lead in the game through the superb Fran Kirby who’s excellent strike in the third minute gave the team the lead. The game was almost never in doubt from there with Arsenal mostly failing to trouble Emma Hayes’ side.

However, it wasn’t until the second half that Chelsea added to their lead through Kirby’s partner Sam Kerr in the 57th minute. Kerr added a third with a fantastic floater that left Arsenal’s goalkeeper watching as a spectator in the 77th minute. It was all smiles from Chelsea from there as they saw out the rest of the game with ease following Kerr’s second goal.

Chelsea Women and Their FA Cup Journey

Chelsea entered the tournament in the fourth round against London City and proceeded to advance through each round with ease, culminating with an ultimately one-sided win in the final as their quality was on full display throughout the tournament.

Arsenal similarly entered the tournament in the fourth round and won their first two games 10-0 and 9-0 respectively before easing past the rest of their opposition. But their performance in the final will come as a surprising disappointment for their manager and fans who are used to the team showing a lot more class and quality.

Arsenal will have this defeat in mind when the two teams meet in a potential WSL decider in February with the two sides battling it out at the top of the table.
