Italian Comedian Stefano Corti travelled all the way to London to question the Tottenham Hotspur manager on just how much he earns.

Corti, who presents Le Iene (an Italian satirical news show) gave Conte a Salvador Dali mask from Netflix TV show Money Heist.

Conte’s Inter Milan Exit Still Smarts

In the final year of his Milan contract, Conte got a multi-million-pound payout. He had just won the Scudetto with them, which was Inter Milan’s first Serie A title in 11 years.

Fans questioned why the manager left his role with lots of fingers being pointed at the financial gain behind such a move. After all, Conte was reportedly the highest-paid manager in Serie A at the time. But Conte has denied that money had anything to do with his decision.

Corti’s teasing was well defended by the new Spurs boss: “Yeah, but come on, it’s not like that.”

“If you do a good job it is only right that you do well. I work at the top and so what they pay me is fair.”

This is a very similar line to what he had already told journalists back in the summer: “The market sets the price. It is based on the results achieved and work done over the years.”

Conte’s Pounds Will Be Well-Earned

Daniel Levy has not been shy to spend some serious cash in his recent managerial appointments. Like Mourinho, Conte is another big-hitting boss and the chairman is paying handsomely for his services.

Conte is now picking up some of the criticism for what is rumoured to be a £17m a year salary at Spurs. But again, like Mourinho, Spurs could be his biggest challenge yet. After all, there is still a great deal of work to do. Tottenham looked to have been instantly boosted by Conte’s arrival when they went three-nil up against Vitesse in the Europa Conference League. But quickly the Belgian side grabbed two goals back thanks to some awful defending. The positives were that Spurs had gotten over their recent rut of matches where they made few attempts on target. But even that came back to haunt them in the 0-0 draw against Everton.

Still, there are promising signs that Conte is steering Spurs back in the right direction. Some of that includes conditioning the squad, including double sessions coming up to bring the players up to scratch. But more than physical conditioning, the players need to build some mental resilience and the ability to take control in big games. That includes all their squad, including Harry Kane.

There’s plenty to get on with, whether it is setting up the three centre-back defence with flying wingbacks, or indeed trying to get Kane firing on all cylinders. Conte does have his work cut out. It is always a privilege to be a football manager, essentially paid for what many teenagers (and middle-agers) play on a computer game for fun. And Conte is being well-paid by Spurs. But it’s also important to criticise how huge football has become and gasp at the ridiculousness of astronomical wages and transfer fees.

As Conte says, “The market sets the price”. Levy will be hoping that Conte will be able to get Spurs’ stock to rise and raise the market prices of his stars. The players? They’ll want to be raising a trophy.
