Raphael Varane Faces a Month Out With Hamstring Injury

Raphael Varane

Manchester United have issued an update on the fitness of Raphael Varane following his substitution during their 2-2 draw with Atalanta on Tuesday (November 2) night.

Varane faces around a month out of action with a hamstring injury.

Raphael Varane Injury Adds to Manchester United’s Defensive Woes

Just Gets Worse for Manchester United

On a night that saw Victor Lindelof absent from the squad through injury, the last thing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needed going into Saturday’s Manchester derby was another defensive injury.

However, Raphael Varane, who has already had some time out with injury this season, faces another spell on the sidelines.

The French defender sustained a hamstring injury during the 2-2 draw with Atalanta that saw Cristiano Ronaldo save the show in Europe for the Red Devils once again.

Today, Manchester United have confirmed Varane faces around a month out.

Damning news for manager Solskjaer, whose captain, Harry Maguire, has been in torrid form since returning from injury himself.

A positive to take from Tuesday night’s game was the performance of Eric Bailly though. Bailly has fallen out-of-favour in recent months but might just get the call for what could be the biggest came of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time as manager yet!

He can offer United some hope ahead of the weekend but they are already up against it v the Premier League champions as it is.

Raphael Varane’s Manchester United Career So Far

Unsurprisingly, Varane has been a regular for Manchester United since joining in what was a sensational summer of signings.

It will of course take time for him to strike a lethal partnership as a centre-back pairing with Harry Maguire, but individually all the signs are good. Maguire, though, is letting the side down at times and has to step up.

The England defender has perhaps not been helped by an early return from injury – when he started the 4-2 loss to Leicester City – he is said, by The Telegraph’s James Ducker, to have returned ten days early.

Manchester United host Manchester City at Old Trafford on Saturday, November 6, and can’t afford a performance or result like the one served to them by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in October.
