West Ham United Agree Fee for Nico Tagliafico But Deal is More Complicated Than That

Nico Tagliafico

West Ham United and Ajax have agreed on a fee of €12 million for Argentine left-back Nico Tagliafico, as per Mike Verweij via Fabrizio Porzio. The deal, however, is far from done, with the player’s agent in Amsterdam while Tagliafico himself is in Venezuela.

West Ham United Agree Part of Complicated Nico Tagliafico Deal

West Ham in Europe

The Hammers had an impressive season last year under Scottish manager David Moyes.

Since being promoted in 2012, they were a very consistent mid-table team, finishing within three positions of tenth place every campaign between then and the 2018/19 campaign. In 2019/20, though, the London side’s fortunes changed, and they only escaped the drop by 5 points.

A stark contrast, though, was the following season.

Moyes’ side were competitors for Champions League qualification all the way until there were just three games left, managing to finish in a very respectable sixth place.

They will now play Europa League football this campaign, and have Dinamo Zagreb, Genk, and Rapid Vienna alongside them in their group. The money from this venture into European football will certainly be able to at least help fund some transfers.

Tagliafico a Great Signing for the Hammers

Nico Tagliafico is a fantastic signing for a side that was fighting against relegation just over a year ago.

The 28-year-old has been Ajax’s first-choice left-back since he joined them in January 2018, and for a team like West Ham to capture a player of that caliber is something of a coup for the Irons.

Tagliafico also has experience in both the Champions League and Europa League, with a combined 28 appearances across the two competitions.

Deal May Prove Challenging

While West Ham and Ajax may have agreed on a fee for the 28-year-old’s transfer, it may not be as simple as that.

Personal terms are yet to be agreed, and deal finalization processes such as a medical would also still need to take place.

Furthermore, with the player and his agent separated by almost 5,000 miles, this move will be a tricky one logistically speaking.
