Michy Batshuayi to Join Besiktas on Loan

Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi is on the verge of joining Turkish side Besiktas on loan, according to Liam Twomey of The Athletic.

Initially, talks between both clubs focused on a permanent transfer. However, no fee could be agreed, and instead, Batshuayi will join on loan for the fifth loan spell of his Chelsea career. The Belgian striker will first extend his Chelsea contract by a further year to 2023.

Batshuayi Set for Another Loan Spell

Michy Batshuayi has failed to establish himself in Chelsea’s lineup since joining in 2016. He has spent the last two seasons at Crystal Palace, scoring seven goals in 29 appearances.

With Chelsea having signed Romelu Lukaku and with Timo Werner as well, it is hard to see Batshuayi having a long-term future at Stamford Bridge.

The loan move to Besiktas is a formality with Besiktas manager, Sergen Yalçın recently saying: “We are trying to make the right transfers as much as we can, without causing our club to suffer economically. This is why this process is taking longer.

“We are late, but this is not about our will. It is very difficult to get players from Europe, to get the right players. We had 3-4 alternatives, but we had problems.

“Batshuayi will be here next week if nothing goes wrong. We have the players we want, we pay well and we will play in the Champions League. This situation strengthens our hand.”

It is expected that Besiktas will pay a loan fee between €1-3 million while also paying Batshuayi’s full wages. However, there is no option for the Turkish side to buy the Belgian striker after the loan ends.

The defending Turkish champions made a winning start to their title defence by beating Rizespor 3-0. Batshuayi will be a great signing for the Turkish giants and is an opportunity for the Belgian striker to kick start his career.
