Leeds United Looking to Keep Tottenham Hotspur at Bay With New Patrick Bamford Deal

Leeds United are looking to deny Tottenham Hotspur with a new deal for Patrick Bamford. According to Mike McGrath of the Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur are considering Bamford as a replacement for Harry Kane, should he end up moving to Manchester City.

Leeds United looking to Deny Spurs With New Deal for Patrick Bamford

Patrick Bamford: Underrated Talisman

It was reported that Bamford had signed a new deal with Leeds United as recently as May this year. But this recent interest in the Leeds striker has Victor Orta keen to tie him to another improved deal.

The secretive new contract seemed to suggest that Bamford had been tied down to 2023. He made an impressive return to the top division with Leeds United. Bamford ended the season as joint fourth in the goalscoring table, with an excellent 17 goals. This was quite a turnaround for the England hopeful. In previous spells in the Premier League, he had struggled for game time and clashed with his previous managers. With Leeds looking to deny Spurs, their best option would be a new Patrick Bamford deal.

Spurs Looking to Strike in the Market

It’s no secret that Spurs Director of Football Fabio Paratici is sniffing around the market. TEAMtalk report that: “Spurs continue to look for a new star upfront, but boss Nuno Espirito Santo wants a signing regardless of Harry Kane’s future. Indeed, Nuno will be happy to either replace Kane with a new player or find a partner for the England captain.”

Whilst not at the same level, parallels have been drawn between Kane and Bamford. Many fans were clamouring for the Leeds man to be included in this summer’s England squad, in case something happening to their main forward. Dean Ashton recently spoke on TalkSPORT about how Bamford could be a suitable replacement for Kane: “You look at Bamford, who is of that ilk, who can lead the line, work incredibly hard and link the play.”

Nuno’s New Reign

Nuno Espirito Santo is looking to make his mark at Spurs. There is no doubt that he would like to make a marquee signing or to at least improve his squad. If Harry Kane were to leave, there is very little cover for him at all. Last season when Kane was injured it was Son Heung-min who took his place up top. But Espirito Santo will not want him to be the sole striker in the squad. The departure of Gareth Bale also reduces the goalscorers on the Tottenham books, and time is running out in the transfer window.

Paratici may well have shortlisted Bamford as the man to solve their issues upfront. But the Leeds United number nine has revitalised his career under Marcelo Bielsa’s leadership. And Victor Orta knows that he won’t be in any hurry to leave Elland Road.
