According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are set to make a bid to sign Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard. The former loanee has been Arsenal’s main target in midfield all summer, and an approach finally looks set to be made. As per Charles Watts of Goal, Real Madrid are looking for around €40-50 million for the Norwegian.
The fact Odegaard was left out of the squad to face Alaves in Madrid’s La Liga opener gives an indication as to where his future lies. Once Arsenal are given the green light, they will go ahead with their proposal.
Arsenal to Make Bid for Martin Odegaard
Backup Plan in Place
If Arsenal fail to bring Martin Odegaard back to the Emirates on a permanent basis, then the backup plan will be Housem Aouar, with Charles Watts stating that the Frenchman is also on the list. As for James Maddison, however, he has never been a viable option, which comes as no surprise when considering the contrasting positions Arsenal and Leicester City find themselves in.
As things stand, plan A of Martin Odegaard looks set to go ahead. The Norwegian became somewhat of a fan favourite whilst on loan, and many have been desperate to see him back in an Arsenal shirt on a permanent basis since. Meanwhile, the player himself will feel as though it is a suitable move. Odegaard needs the consistent game time, and Arsenal can provide exactly that.
Together with Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe, he can form a dangerous and youthful trio behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has been crying out for a reliable supply line since the start of last season.
The creativity of the trio can get Aubameyang back in the goals. And that’s crucial. Without the forward’s goals, Arsenal are left high and dry, as proven last season.
