Football Transfer News: Sam Field, Matty Pearson and James Wilson

Field Re-Joins QPR Permanently

Queens Park Rangers have completed the signing of midfielder Sam Field on a permanent deal from Queens Park Rangers.

The 23-year-old, who joins for an undisclosed fee, spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan at the West London Club, scoring one in 19 appearances.

Field’s deal with the R’s runs for three years with the option of a further year.

He leaves the Baggies having come through the academy at the club and making 34 appearances, 22 of which came in the Premier League between 2016 and 2020.

Speaking to the club website, QPR manager Mark Warburton said of his new signing: “He is a young player who showed his evident quality in the games he played for us during the second half of last season,” Rangers boss Mark Warburton told the club website.

“He adds both physicality and versatility to our play. And he undoubtedly has huge development potential.”

Pearson Links Up With Terriers

Defender Matty Pearson will join Huddersfield Town on July 1 when his contract expires at fellow Championship side Luton Town.

Pearson played 40 second-tier matches for Luton last season and has been with the Hatters since 2018.

Having previously spent all of his career in the north of England with the likes of Barnsley, Accrington Stanley and FC Halifax Town, a move to Huddersfield gives him the chance to return closer to home.

The 27-year-old was part of the Luton side that won promotion to the Championship in 2019 and then secured a dramatic survival under Nathan Jones at the end of last season.

He joins a Huddersfield side looking to improve on a disappointing 20th-placed finish – just six points above the relegation zone.

Terriers boss Carlos Corberan said: “He has good experience in the Championship, and has played many minutes over the last two seasons.

“He’s a big presence, good in the air, strong in the tackle, and what really stands out is his competitive character.

“He gives us extra versatility in defence as he can play as a right centre-back in a three or just with the left centre-back in a back four. We look forward to working with him.”

Wilson Joins Pilgrims

Plymouth Argyle have signed 32-year-old defender James Wilson on a free transfer from League One counterparts Ipswich Town.

The Welshman, who has previously played for Oldham Athletic and Bristol City in his career, joined Ipswich from Lincoln City in 2019 and played 49 times in that time.

He becomes Ryan Lowe’s first signing of the summer at Plymouth look to build on their 18th-place finish in their first season back in League One.
