Career so Far

Fondop makes the step up to League One after spending the majority of his career injury in non-league.

The 27-year-old most recently featured for Aldershot. However, he made just five appearances for the National League side after joining them in November.

He joined Aldershot after a successful spell with former Football League side Chesterfield last season, scoring 10 goals in 29 appearances.

Fondop has also enjoyed spells with Maidenhead, Wrexham and Halifax Town.

What Was Said?

Speaking about his new signing to the official Burton Albion website, manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said that he has been looking to add a striker to his squad.

“He’s a big boy, a good target man, but also mobile,” the former Chelsea striker said.

“We have been looking to add a striker because we only have Kane Hemmings who is struggling with injury, Luke Varney and Lucas Akins – who is playing striker and doing well – and we feel we need back-up in that position.

“He’s also someone who can come off the bench and he can play in a different way and we can be more direct.”

Fondop added: “I’m very, very excited. I couldn’t sleep on Thursday night, just because of the news I was told (about signing).

“I can’t wait to hit the ground running and to show to the club and the fans what I’m capable of doing.

“I have to mention that the welcome from the players and the staff has been amazing. Since day one, everyone has been very welcoming to me, from the manager to his staff and the playing staff.

“I didn’t feel like a stranger and that has helped me to integrate easily. All the sessions were technical with very good players, and I feel that my level is definitely going to rise up, and I’m going to learn a lot from them.”
