Need f0r a Centre-Back

The U’s have been in need of a centre-back since the departure of Harry Darling to MK Dons and loanee Robbie Cundy returning to Bristol City.

As a result, Mark Bonner has turned to Drysdale in order to cure their issues in defence. The 21-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan with League One side Gillingham, making 17 appearances in all competitions.

Drysdale has featured four times for his parent club, including two earlier this season in the Carabao Cup.

The arrival of the centre-back will add further depth to the United squad. Bonner currently has Greg Taylor and Tottenham Hotspur loanee Jubril Okedina available, but further additions were required in order to help the U’s challenge for promotion.

What Was Said?

Speaking about his new signing to the official Cambridge United website, Bonner said: “We are pleased to have added Declan to the squad to give us added competition and cover. He is well regarded at Coventry City and comes to us having experienced first team football and played in League One this season.

“His challenge is to come and add value to us and quickly integrate himself into our United team.”

The U’s may look to make further additions on deadline day. Speaking to the Cambridge Independent ahead of their clash with Crawley Town at the weekend, Bonner said: “We’ve got a couple of offers in for players at the moment, centre-backs, but we don’t expect anything to be done in time for the deadline for Saturday.

“Everyone knows what we’re looking for and as and when we get them over the line we will be pleased.”
