Celtic’s Olivier Ntcham Could Join Newcastle United on Loan

Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham could join Newcastle United on loan, according to Sky Sports – but face competition from fellow Premier League strugglers West Bromwich Albion.

The Magpies have reportedly asked the Hoops about the Frenchman’s availability, as Monday’s transfer deadline looms.

Steve Bruce’s side sit 16th in the Premier League table and had been on a dreadful run of form, but a surprise 2-0 victory away at Everton on Saturday saw them get back to winning ways.

Newcastle are looking to build on that positive news with the addition of Ntcham, who has fallen out of favour in Glasgow and has already voiced his desire to leave his current club.

Out of Favour at Celtic

According to Sky, Celtic would prefer any deal to include a permanent transfer clause, as the 24-year-old enters the final year and a half of his current deal. They would rather cash in now and at least see some return on their investment, rather than lose the player on a free.

Ntcham might have moved to French side Brest on deadline day last October but was denied a move. Several other Ligue 1 sides are said to be keen on taking him back to his homeland, while West Bromwich Albion are also reportedly keen on the player.

Ntcham on Newcastle Wish List

Newcastle will have to decide who their preferred midfield target is, with Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhury also reportedly on Bruce’s wish list.

Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph repeated the claim that the Magpies had made contact with Celtic over Ntcham in a Twitter post, and said the player had “made it clear he wants to leave the club.”

Meanwhile, Ntcham was on a list of 10 players named by former Celtic forward John Hartson as those who the Glasgow club should allow to leave by the summer, alongside the likes of Odsonne Edouard and Albian Ajeti.

With Celtic looking likely to lose the Scottish Premiership title race to Rangers for the first time in a decade, a rebuild is on the cards at the end of the season.

With Newcastle in need of reinforcements ahead of their battle to stay in the Premier League, Celtic in the middle of their worst season in recent memory and Ntcham looking for a fresh challenge, it seems to be a deal which would suit all parties.

Ntcham could join Newcastle on loan before this month’s transfer deadline, but if not then the Magpies may well revive their interest in the summer.
