Gambin Career So Far

Gambin began his career with Barnet and spent six years with the London club. A move to Luton Town followed and he was part of the Hatters squad that secured promotion to League One in 2017.

The winger joined Colchester in 2019 and was a key part of the side that reached the League Two play-off semi-finals last season, where he made 37 appearances.

The Malta international, who has been capped 28 times, has made 13 appearances for the U’s this season but is looking to get more game time at Newport.

What Was Said

Speaking to the clubs’ official website, the winger said: “When I first became aware of the club’s interest in me, it was something that I wanted to pursue.

“I’ve already played a lot of football in League Two and got to the play-offs with Colchester last season, so I know what to expect and hopefully I can bring that experience to help this team.

“The manager wants me to add something to this group, but they are already a great team and doing really well, so I’m happy to be a part of it and it’s a great opportunity for me.”

Manager Michael Flynn added: “Luke already has a lot of experience playing in this division and on the international stage, so he will add a lot of quality to help the squad in the final third. He knows what it takes to compete at the top end of the table after getting to the play-offs with Colchester last season.

“Hopefully he can go one step further with us and help us get promotion to League One.”

Newport Pushing for Promotion

Gambin is the Exiles fourth signing of the January transfer window. The winger follows Jack Evans, Jake Scrimshaw and Owen Windsor to Rodney Parade.

Flynn’s side are second in League Two but are just one point behind league leaders Cambridge United and have two games in hand. Newport travel to Oldham on Saturday as the look to regain top spot.
