Jamie Devitt Joins Barrow in Permanent Deal

Barrow have completed their fourth signing in the last two days as Jamie Devitt arrives on a permanent deal from Blackpool.

Devitt spent the first half of the season on loan at Newport County. However, he was subsequently recalled by Blackpool who released him from his contract at Bloomfield. He has signed an 18-month deal at Holker Street.

Devitt’s arrival continues new manager Michael Jolley’s revamp of the Barrow squad.

Devitt enjoyed an excellent first half of the season at Newport County- helping the Exiles establish themselves as promotion contenders. He made eight appearances, scoring once but will now return to a part of the United Kingdom he knows so well.

Devitt established himself at top midfielder at Barrow’s Cumbrian rivals Carlisle United. He spent three successful years there captaining the side on several occasions. He made 130 appearances for Carlisle and managed 22 goals in that time.

However, his challenge with Barrow is very different. He joins a side looking to ensure their safety as a football league club. The Bluebirds are just three points clear of the League Two relegation zone. He will join a new look Barrow midfield as new manager Michael Jolley stamps his authority on the team.

Devitt’s arrival takes Barrow’s tally of new signings to five. Devitt is their fourth in the last two days after Tom Davies, Ollie Banks and Dan Bramall signed yesterday.

Michael Jolley is desperate to inject goals and creativity into his side. Devitt certainly does that and also brings plenty of football league experience to a Barrow side finding their feet in League Two.

Devitt will be relishing the challenge ahead as the Bluebirds gear up for a busy second half of the season. He could make his debut in their crucial six-pointer against Grimsby Town next Tuesday.
