The England international’s representatives held talks with the French club, with an official approach expected next week according to Sky Sports.

Several Clubs Including Nice Chasing Lingard

Manchester United are reportedly open to exploring the options of letting Jesse Lingard leave despite only extending his contract last year.

Nice are said to have beaten Premier League clubs Newcastle and Sheffield United to the signing of Lingard. According to reports Sheffield United had contacted the Red Devils about the possibility of taking both Lingard and defender Brandon Williams on loan for the rest of the season. However, according to The Athletic, Lingard is reluctant to drop into a relegation battle and is happy to bide his time for alternative offers.

Lingard Hoping to Recapture Form

The 28-year old is yet to feature for Manchester United in the Premier League this season, with his last appearance coming over a year ago.

Lingard started in United’s FA Cup win over Watford on the weekend and was his third appearance this season, with the other two coming in the Carabao Cup back in September. He started in the third-round win over Luton Town and then was bought on as a substitute in the fourth-round victory over Brighton.

Since his fantastic season for club and country- including at the World Cup in 2018- the Warrington-born winger has failed to reach further heights. His significant decline in form and playtime has seen him become a part of Manchester United’s matchday squad on four occasions; all as an unused substitute.

The likes of Mason Mount and Jack Grealish have also led him to be overlooked by England manager Gareth Southgate at international level ahead of the Euros this summer.
