Timothy Fosu-Mensah Future at Manchester United Unclear

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah remains defiant in his bid to stay at the club in spite of his latest decision to turn down a new contract.

The 22-year-old has found game time extremely limited, being restricted to only three appearances this season.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah Future Unclear

The Defender Has Fallen Out of Favour

Failure to tie down the Dutchman to a new deal would allow Fosu-Mensah to sign a pre-contract agreement in the January transfer window, or leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

His last league appearance was in the 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on the opening day of the season and he has been displaced by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Although Fosu-Mensah can play various positions— full-back, centre-back and defensive midfield, Manchester United’s summer recruitment did not do him any favours.

The recent arrivals of Alex Telles and Donny van de Beek have further curtailed his progress. With Telles now solidifying his position at full-back and van de Beek clearly ahead of him for the central midfield position, Fosu-Mensah’s hand may have been dealt.

Where Will Timothy Fosu-Mensah End Up?

According to Goal’s Ronan Murphy, Hertha Berlin and Bayer Leverkusen are interested in his signature. However, the player’s preference is to tie himself down to a new deal with the only stumbling block seeming to be the terms on offer.

Given his potential market value, Manchester United will be desperate to tie him down to a new deal to prevent the loss of a transfer-free for a player who is after all a Dutch International.

With plenty of time still left in the transfer window, it is still debatable where Fosu-Mensah’s future lies. With interest refusing to go away, Manchester United will be hoping for a swift conclusion.
