REPORT: Kevin De Bruyne Close to Agreeing New Manchester City Contract

Contract Talks Underway

The PFA Players’ Player of the Year signed from Wolfsburg in 2015 for £55 million and currently still has two and a half years left on his deal.

De Bruyne was an unused substitute in Tuesday’s draw to Porto in the UEFA Champions League but has continued to be instrumental for his team, registering nine assists in ten games so far this season in all competitions.

De Bruyne Representing Himself

During the international break last month, where the attacking midfielder helped Belgium beat England 2-0 in the Nations League, he told VTM Nieuws: “I am happy in Manchester. I am at a good club. Good owners. Good club.”

The 29-year old revealed to the Belgian TV Station that he was representing himself after his former agent ran into trouble with the law.

“Now I do it myself. I would like to stay with Man City, so it is not a difficult situation. If I didn’t want to stay, it would take someone to mediate.”

Manager Commits Future

City’s vice-captain is set to follow in the footsteps of his manager Pep Guardiola, who also ended speculation over his future by agreeing on a new two-year deal at the club. Guardiola’s current contract was due to run out in seven months.

The new deal is set to see the longest tenure the Spaniard has spent in charge as a manager in the hot-seat.

Transfer News

Manchester City are close to completing the signing of Dario Sarmiento from Estudiantes, according to Romano. The 17-year-old is set to join for €9 million-plus add-ons which may eventually reach €19 million. It is said he would arrive next summer in June 2021 to plan his future which may lead him to North America first with New York City.
