REPORT: Manchester City Eyeing Darwin Nunez in Striker Search

In Manchester City, a striker seems to be the priority heading into the next few transfer windows and Darwin Nunez of Benfica could be that striker, according to The Telegraph.

Manchester City Plotting Darwin Nunez Move

Darwin Nunez Impressed For Benfica

Nunez, who is currently just 21-years of age, currently plies his trade for Benfica in Portugal and has so far impressed many with his performances in the Primeira Liga.

In just seven games for the club so far, he has managed five goal contributions.

Before that, he featured heavily for Almeria in the Segunda Division. For the Spanish side, he made 30 appearances and banged in 16 goals along the way. Even earlier than that as a 17-year old, he began his career for Penarol in Uruguay.

Guardiola Needs a Replacement for Sergio Aguero

At just 21-years of age, he is young and could prove to be a good eventual successor to Sergio Aguero. City boss Pep Guardiola believes this too, as the forward is reportedly one of the targets he is considering a move for.

Despite bagging nearly 200 goals for City, Aguero is now 32-years old and is entering the latter stages of his career. He’s also spoken openly about leaving the Etihad Stadium in the past, claiming he could eventually move back to his native country at the end of his career.

If that is the case, then City will need a younger replacement sooner rather than later.

Nunez Features for the Uruguay National Team

Several players have been touted as a potential replacement but Nunez is young and has already impressed in Europe and his native country. He’s even played for the Uruguay national side, which is no mean feat at just 21-years old.

It looks like he hasn’t gone unnoticed and it appears he could be quite high on the City shopping list next transfer window.
