Southend United have confirmed the return of left-back Sam Hart, who had previously had a spell on loan at Roots Hall.

Hart has signed a contract until the end of the season.

Time to Kick on After Series of Loan Spells

The 24-year-old who had been in and around the Manchester United and Liverpool youth setups as a youngster found himself without a club in the summer, having been released by Blackburn Rovers, who had signed him from Liverpool in 2017.

Hart has had a number of loan spells, most recently joining Shrewsbury Town in League One last January. He had made just four appearances at the club before the season came to an early end, owing to the coronavirus pandemic.

The defender made more appearances in his loan spell with Southend than he did in any other spell. It makes sense that he would take the chance to return to Roots Hall and try to get back into action within familiar surroundings.

During his time at Southend in 2019, Hart made 18 appearances and managed to provide three assists for the side.

Hart Looking to Build on Fond Memories at Southend United

Sam Hart told the club website: “It’s great to be back. I’ve been in training for a few days now and have got a feel for it. It’s amazing to be back.

“I’ve got a lot of fond memories being here on loan in the past and hopefully we can create something special again.

“I had a couple of things that fell through but from the conversations I had with the chairman and the manager, I was really keen to get down here and get playing.

“I loved my time at Southend and hopefully there’s good memories to come again.”

The Best Is Still to Come

Manager Mark Molesley added: “Sam has been in training the last couple of weeks and we’ve seen the quality he will add.

“He’s at a good age where the best is still to come but he adds good experience having played in the league above.

“He’s had a good football education growing up and has all the attributes to continue to develop.

“I know he really enjoyed his last spell at the club and he was really keen to come back. We’re really pleased to have him on board and look forward to working and developing him as a player.”
