Journeyman Kazim-Richards Joins Derby

The former Turkish international has penned a one-year deal with the Rams, who are the 17th club of his career.

Kazim-Richards last played in England in 2013 during a loan spell with fellow Championship side Blackburn Rovers. He joins Phillip Cocu‘s side to bolster their depleted strike force.

The ex-Sheffield United forward most recently played for CF Pachuca, netting six times in 16 appearances.

Earlier this week, Derby were heavily linked with West Bromwich Albion‘s Charlie Austin but the two clubs failed to agree on a deal.

Derby boss Cocu, told the club website: “Colin has a large amount of experience after playing in various countries across the world and provides us with another option in the centre-forward role.

“He trained with us recently and that provided us with the opportunity to assess how he could possibly fit into the squad and also review his fitness.”

Derby Hopeful Experienced Striker Can Add Firepower

Kazim-Richards has a vast list of previous employers. He began his career at Bury before playing for the likes of Fenerbache, Galatasaray and Feyenoord. More recently he’s played in both Brazil and Mexico.

Despite not playing in England for seven years, he did have a brief spell with Celtic in 2016, however, he scored just twice in 13 appearances.

The Rams may be signing the veteran striker in the hope that he can score the goals that push them up the table but his record hasn’t been too promising in recent years.

His best spell came between 2014 and 2016 whilst playing for Feyenoord, scoring 17 goals in 54 matches.

On the international stage, Kazim-Richards played 37 times for Turkey between 2007 and 2015. He played all five matches as Turkey reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2008.
