Manchester United Coman

Manchester United made no approach for Bayern Munich attacker Kingsley Coman during the summer transfer window, according to the European champions‘ sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.

Speaking to Christian Falk, Salihamidzic explained how United showed no interest in acquiring Coman. Salihamidzic also expressed the club’s desire to keep the 24-year-old.

“Nothing” From Manchester United

Coman was linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout the summer transfer window. The Athletic reported that United held talks to sign the French forward in July.

However, these rumours were dismissed by Salihamidzic. Bayern’s Sporting Director highlighted just how important the 24-year-old is to the German club.

Speaking to Bild,  Salihamidzic said: “There was nothing, and we wouldn’t have looked into it either. His goal in the Champions League final should explain enough why we are relying on him wholeheartedly.”

Coman Key for Bayern

Bayern were always likely to reject or dismiss any interest in Coman. Salihamidzic’s revelations reveal how central the 24-year-old is to the club.

Coman made 38 appearances for Bayern last season and scored eight goals. The forward was instrumental in the club’s Champions League victory when he scored the winner in the 1-0 final win over Paris Saint-Germain.

United’s Summer Business

United supposed pursuit of Coman never gained enough traction over the summer to suggest a move was likely. Instead, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer managed to bring in a number of additions. Edinson Cavani the most high-profile arrival, with the likes Alex Telles and Donny van de Beek among some potentially shrewd acquisitions.

However, after missing out on a long-term target, Jadon Sancho, Solskaer was forced to focus on alternative targets to bolster his attacking options. Facundo Pellistri, 18, was the only arrival for the summer in Sancho’s position, which may suggest the Red Devils may revisit the Borussia Dortmund forward’s situation at a later date.

United have endured a difficult start to the 2020/21 season. So far, they have lost two of their opening three Premier League games and find themselves 16th in the table.
