Borussia Dortmund’s teenage sensation Jude Bellingham has been named the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month for September. The 17-year-old is in his first season at the German club after making the move from Birmingham City. Bellingham has played in all three of Dortmund’s Bundesliga fixtures so far. He registered his first career assist in the German top flight in Dortmund’s victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach on matchday one.

A Bright Start
Bellingham has received plenty of playing time from Lucien Favre since arriving at Dortmund. The Englishman has made an appearance in all five of Dortmund’s competitive fixtures in the 2020/21 season. Both his first goal and assist for the club have already been recorded.
The transition from playing in the EFL Championship to Bundesliga as been a smooth one so far. He does not appear to be phased by the quick switch from playing in the English second division to featuring for one of German’s top clubs. His professionalism has been exceptional and this should lead to continued appearances with Dortmund’s first team as the season continues.
The Other Contenders
There were a total of three players nominated for the Rookie of the Month award. The other two contenders were Silas Wamangituka of Stuttgart and Amos Pieper of Arminia Bielefeld. Both of these players had very good performances during September which makes Bellingham’s accomplishment even more impressive.
Wamangituka is off to a great start in the Bundesliga with two goals and one assist in three appearances. He is a player who should get another opportunity at earning the Rookie of the Month award during this campaign. The 21-year-old is emerging as one of the best young attacking players in the league. He is a player to keep an eye on as the season progresses.
