Premier League Team of the Week: Gameweek Four

Premier League

Well, that was fun, wasn’t it? Although fans of Manchester United and Liverpool may not agree. United’s 6-1 demolition at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon wasn’t even the most surprising result of the weekend. The dust had hardly settled at Old Trafford when Aston Villa put seven past the current Premier League champions Liverpool. Villa’s 7-2 win maintained their 100% start to the campaign, ending Jurgen Klopp’s perfect start in the process. With those exceptional performances, it has made it difficult to choose a Premier League Team of the Week.

At the other end of the table, Fulham, Sheffield United and Burnley all remain pointless as they were defeated by after losing yet again. Elsewhere, West Ham United beat Leicester City 3-0, Southampton came out 2-0 winners against West Bromwich Albion and Chelsea put four past Crystal Palace without reply. The only draw of the weekend came at Elland Road – where Premier League new boys Leeds United held Manchester City 1-1.

Premier League Team of the Week

Premier League Gameweek Three

With that being said, lets take at who makes this week’s Team of the Week.

GK: Ederson (Manchester City)

It is Ederson who gets the nod this week. Granted it was his mistake that let Leeds United back into the game, but the Brazilian pulled off an array of stops, including a stunning fingertip save onto the crossbar from Rodrigo.

RB: Serge Aurier (Tottenham Hotspur)

It’s indicative of this season’s Premier League that all four of this week’s backline did more going forward than they did defensively. Aurier helped himself to a goal and an assist in his sides romp of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

CB: Kurt Zouma (Chelsea)

The Frenchman scored his second goal of the season with a towering header against Crystal Palace.

CB: Aaron Cresswell (West Ham United)

Predominately a left-back, Cresswell has been playing on the left of a back three for the Hammers. He set up his sides opening two goals in their 3-0 away win at Leicester City.

LB: Ben Chilwell (Chelsea)

The 23-year-old put in a man of the match display on his Premier League debut for Chelsea, scoring their first and teeing up the second in a 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

CM: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Tottenham Hotspur) – While Son and Kane will grab the headlines in Spurs’ 6-1 victory against Manchester United, former Southampton midfielder Hojbjerg was everywhere at Old Trafford and put Serge Aurier through with a delightfully weighted through-ball for their sides fifth goal.

CM: John McGinn (Aston Villa)

The first of three Villa men in this week’s Team of the Week and the only player to maintain their spot from last week. McGinn scored his first of the campaign, as well teeing up Villa’s seventh and final goal against Liverpool.

LW: Jack Grealish (Aston Villa)

Villa’s main man had a hand in all but two of his sides seven goals against Liverpool. The Englishman continued his fine form from last season, claiming three assists and bagging a brace in an unforgettable night at Villa Park.

RW: James Rodriguez (Everton)

The former Real Madrid man has taken to the Premier League like the proverbial duck to water. Rodriguez scored a brace in the Toffees 4-2 victory over Brighton, as well as teeing up Yerry Mina to head home on the stroke of half-time.

ST: Heung-Min Son (Tottenham Hotspur)

The South-Korean just edges out teammate Harry Kane in this weeks Team of the Week. Both bagged a brace in Spurs’ 6-1 hammering of Manchester United, but Son’s composure in front of goal was clinical. He now tops the goal scoring charts along with Dominic Calvert-Lewin .

ST: Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)

Villa’s record signing bagged his first Premier League goals of the season with a hat-trick against reigning champions Liverpool. The former Brentford striker also crashed one against the woodwork, as well as teeing up teamate Jack Grealish for Villa’s sixth of the evening.
