Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Conor Coady has committed his future to the club with a new five-year deal. Molineux ‘Like Home’ for Coady

Despite being a boyhood Liverpool fan and making his breakthrough into professional football with the Reds, Coady’s five years at Wolves in the longest he has spent with any club on a professional basis. He spent a season at Sheffield United on loan from Liverpool and, after leaving Merseyside, played for Huddersfield Town for one season.

After settling down at Wolves, though, the 27-year-old now feels at home.

He told the club website: “You always want the future to go well and when I first signed for this football club, all you wanted was to get promoted.

“I was lucky a club like Wolves came in for me, when I was at Huddersfield, and when I got the phone call at the time, I said, ‘Let’s get this done’.

“Now I’ve been here five years, it’s been absolutely incredible, and it’s a place I feel at home.”

Hungry for More

When Wolves returned to the Premier League in 2018, a lot was expected of them due to the heavy investment that had been put into the playing squad.

In their first campaign back, a seventh-place finish secured them a place in the 2019/20 Europa League, and despite having to balance their second Premier League season with a first European campaign for almost 40 years, they finished seventh again and reached the quarter-finals of Europe’s second-tier competition.

For a side that was playing in League One as recently as 2014, it’s been a sensational rise, and it’s something that Coady is keen to experience more of with the club.

He said: “You can’t be satisfied. This is an amazing thing the club’s given me – I’m so, so grateful for what this club’s given me over five years.

“It doesn’t stop me wanting to improve and help this club as much as possible. Luckily, the last three years have been incredible.”
