REPORT: Callum Hudson-Odoi’s Future at Chelsea Still in Doubt

Callum Hudson Odoi's future

Callum Hudson-Odoi’s future at Chelsea is still looking unclear. Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian reports that Frank Lampard is looking to trim his squad and the 19-year-old could be one player that is allowed to leave. The winger has made one start since football returned in June.

Additionally, with the club are set to spend over £200 million this transfer window, it seems that it will be increasingly difficult for Hudson-Odoi to cement a starting spot in Frank Lampard’s side.

Chelsea Face Selection Issues with Callum Hudson-Odoi’s Future in Doubt

Where Does Callum Hudson-Odoi’s Future Lie?

Hudson-Odoi is in a position where he needs a run of games in the Chelsea side to prove his worth. He is likely to start when Chelsea host Barnsley in the EFL Cup, and will be hoping his performance will earn him a run in the Premier League.

The winger, who has been previously linked with a move to Bayern Munich, signed a five-year deal last year. However, a number of clubs are expected to be monitoring his situation and will be hoping to make progress before the window shuts.

Despite finding himself on the fringes of the squad, Hudson-Odoi is believed to be content with the Blues. At 19-years-old, he is still progressing as a footballer and as an individual, meaning he would not like to make any rash decisions.

Chelsea themselves are not in favour of loaning the 19-year-old out, unless it was to a top club. If Hudson-Odoi was made available, it would certainly attract a large amount of interest both in England and across Europe.

Chelsea Need to Address Other Areas

Another player whose future is uncertain is Antonio Rudiger. The defender failed to make Chelsea’s bench on Sunday’s defeat to Liverpool and could be made available by Chelsea. The signing of Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr means the Blues are in need of cutting at least one central defender from their squad.

The addition of Ben Chilwell has also raised significant questions about whether a left-back will be departing. Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri have both been targeted by Inter Milan, with one expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

Frank Lampard Faces Key Decisions Before the Window Passes

Frank Lampard knows that he has to make key decisions and knows time is running out. Speaking to The Guardian about who will be leaving, Lampard answered: “I’m going to skirt around that question.

“We’re not in a period where the transfer period is acting like it has done in recent years. The competitive games have just started.

“My priority is maintaining the strongest squad I can. After that, the individual conversations will happen. I am very open to those conversations with those players as the next couple of weeks go on.”
