REPORT: Manchester United Revive Interest in Dayot Upamecano

Manchester United look certain to revisit their interest in Dayot Upamecano before the transfer window closes, according to James Ducker of the Daily Telegraph.

The 21-year-old RB Leipzig defender has been tracked by the club for a while, according to the Daily Mail, but plan to activate his release clause next summer.

However, last weekend’s 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace could force them to make a move before the window closes.

Running Out of Time

If United are to make a move, they need to act quickly before the window closes.

Upamecano is someone they have had their eye on for a while and now is the perfect time to make a move.

The manner of their opening day defeat to Crystal Palace has raised serious doubts in both Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

The French centre-back is young, in-form and had a fantastic season with RB Leipzig last year as they reached the Champions League semi-finals.

This, inevitably, could mean the German club will be reluctant to sell, which is not what United fans want to hear right now. What they want to hear is new signings being announced, and they are running out of time to make them.

How Would He Fit in at Old Trafford?

If Upamecano carries his previous season form to this season, he will fit in very well at Old Trafford.

His aggressiveness and dominance on the ball is exactly what United need if they are to mount a title challenge.

At the moment, any team will fancy their chances against United with their defensive worries. Maguire hasn’t fully settled in Manchester, while Lindelof looks unsure of himself. They might also have Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling, but does Ole trust them enough to play them week in week out?

Only time will tell, but signing Upamecano would be a great coup for United regardless.
