REPORT: Kylian Mbappe Intends to Leave Paris Saint-Germain in 2021

Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe could leave the French giants at the end of the 2020/21 campaign. According to L’equipe, a potential move elsewhere would be in pursuit of furthering his career.

Mbappe was bought by PSG from Monaco in 2018 for £165 million – the second-largest transfer fee ever. The Frenchman has scored 77 goals in 102 Ligue 1 and Champions League games since arriving in Paris, and has a World Cup to his name.

Mbappe has won the last four Ligue 1 titles, one of which was for Monaco in the 2016/17 campaign. The 21-year-old also has been awarded several personal accolades for his performances over the last few seasons.

Career Thus Far

Kylian Mbappe joined Monaco’s academy at the age of 14. Previously, he was a part of the famous Clairefontaine academy, which was the national football centre. It was at the French football academy where he started to attract a whole host of European club’s attention.

As well as a number of French clubs, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Liverpool and Bayern Munich all tried to sign Mbappe. He eventually decided to join Monaco and rapidly progressed through the club’s academy system.

During the 2015/16 season, Mbappe became the youngest ever first-team player in Monaco’s history. A couple of months later, he made history again. The Frenchman became Monaco’s youngest ever goalscorer when he netted in a 3-1 win over Troyes, at 17 years and 62 days old.

The following season, Mbappe enjoyed a very impressive breakthrough year. By the end of the campaign, he had netted 26 goals in 44 games, helping Monaco to lift the Ligue 1 title. He also played a part in the club progressing as far as the Champions League semi-finals.

The then 18-year-old was bought by PSG as he became the world’s most expensive teenager. The past three years have seen Mbappe go from strength to strength. He scored on his debut for PSG in a 5-1 victory over Metz. Both the 2018/19 and the 2019/20 campaigns saw Mbappe finish as the league’s top goalscorer.

Where Next for Mbappe?

It is hard to believe that Mbappe is only 21-years-old and still has his best years ahead of him. It is expected that Mbappe’s desire to leave PSG at the end of the 2020/21 campaign, will be met by the interests of a number of European powerhouses.

L’equipe reports that Mbappe has targeted a move to either La Liga or the Premier League. Both Real Madrid and Manchester City are expected to show interest in Mbappe after both clubs had lucrative offers rejected before his move to Paris.

Also, Jurgen Klopp has often vocalised his admiration of Kylian Mbappe. Liverpool have been extremely quiet in this year’s transfer window and could plot a move that would see Kylian Mbappe join the Reds next summer.
