Tottenham Hotspur are interested in striking a deal for Gareth Bale to return on loan, according to Alasdair Gold of Football.London.

However, both Football.London and The Athletic are reporting that any deal is likely to be extremely complicated.

Potential for a Deal to Be Done

There is potential for a deal to be done. However, the Welshman returning to Tottenham would mean his parent club, Real Madrid, paying part of his wages.

Bale earns in the region of £350,000-a-week, which would break Spurs’ current wage structure. As a result, this is where matters are being complicated.

The Welshman has been keen to leave the Spanish capital since last summer. He was close to sealing a move to China, but that fell through at the last minute.

As a result, he was forced to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu, where he has fallen out of favour and remains unpopular in Zinedine Zidane’s squad.

Bale made 20 appearances for Madrid last season as they won the La Liga title. However, the trophy celebrations saw him awkwardly pose with his team-mates, hinting at possible unrest.

The winger has made close to 250 appearances during his seven years with Madrid, scoring 98 goals.

Where Would Bale Fit in at Tottenham?

The luxury of Bale means that he would likely become an instant member of Jose Mourinho’s starting 11.

His best position is undoubtedly on the left-hand side, where Spurs are arguably currently lacking in options. Son Heung-Min started their 1-0 defeat to Everton on the left in place of Steven Bergwijn. However, Bergwijn is still finding his feet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while Son prefers to play through the middle.

As a result, Bale would operate from the left-hand side most likely. Alternatively, he could also offer support for Harry Kane in attack; Bale has played up-front for Wales on international duty.
