Leicester City are actively seeking the addition of a new centre-back this summer.
Saint-Etienne defender Wesley Fofana has been identified as their number one target, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Saint-Etienne Receive Bid From Leicester City for Wesley Fofana
Leicester City are reported to have made a €29 million bid for Wesley Fofana.
Fofana, 19, has made 27 appearances for his current club, catching the attention of Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers.
Leicester were forced to turn to Wes Morgan toward the end of the 2019/20 season with Caglar Soyuncu suspended. Morgan is now 36-years-old and despite his experience, the Foxes should not rely on him for the most important game of their season, as they did against Manchester United on the final day.
Fofana is young, so would arrive with a great deal of potential and already has some Ligue 1 experience.
Leicester have only made one senior addition in this transfer window so far, Timothy Castagne.
Castagne, 24, arrived from Atalanta one week ago and it looks like it won’t be too long before he is joined by another addition.
Wesley Fofana’s Saint-Etienne Career So Far
Fofana’s professional career began in May 2019. He made his debut in Saint-Etienne’s 3-0 win over OGC Nice in Ligue 1. He’d come off the bench to replace Pierre-Yves Polomat after 20 minutes in that game. Fofana did enough to be given his full debut in the next game, a 1-1 draw with SCO Angers six days later.
The defender, who turns 20 in December, was not immediately called upon for the 2019/20 season. However, by the time October came around, he’d found his place back in the team. Romantically, he scored his first goal in the same fixture he’d made his debut in a year previous, this time a 4-1 win over OGC Nice.
Having started the opening game of the season, Fofana is probably set to embark on his first full-season at Saint-Etienne, in terms of playing regularly. With William Saliba‘s departure for Arsenal, helping those chances. Though interest from one of the Premier League‘s most-exciting football clubs could be too hard to turn down.
Fofana himself has told French outlet L’Equipe, “I would be crazy to say no to Leicester.”

However, Claude Puel has said Fofana will not be leaving.
It is not suggested how much higher Leicester will be willing to go, should Saint-Etienne stand their ground and turn down the €29 million offer.
Bayer Leverkusen Defender Jonathan Tah Is Another Option
Leicester are prepared for such an event that the French side will not sell. Bayer Leverkusen‘s Jonathan Tah is another option for the Midlands club. Tah, 24, would arrive with significantly more experience.
Tah has played 181 games for Bayer Leverkusen, including in the Champions League. He is also a Germany international, with Fofana yet to even feature for France‘s youth age-groups.
The Bayer Leverkusen defender may make the safer bet, but Brendan Rodgers has always had an eye for talent and is looking at Fofana first.
