Impressive CV

The French international holds an impressive CV as he joins the newly-promoted side ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Areola spent last season on loan with Real Madrid, helping them secure the La Liga for the first time since the 2016/17 season.

The 27-year-old began his career with PSG, but did not become a first-team regular until the 2016/17 campaign. He spent much of the early part of his career out on loan, enjoying successful loan spells with Bastia, Lens and Villarreal.

During his three-year spell as the first-choice goalkeeper in the French capital, Areola impressed, securing the league title in each season; he kept 47 clean sheets in 99 appearances across this period.

Exciting Move

Speaking about his move to the official Fulham website, Areola said: “I am very happy everything is done. Scott Parker called me and I had a good feeling. He said he really wanted me.

“Fulham is a historic club in London and I have heard a lot about the stadium.

“I hope this season will be a good one for us. I want to bring my energy and do everything for this team to keep us where we belong to be.”

Meanwhile, the Cottagers chairman, Tony Khan, said: “I’m thrilled to welcome Alphonse Areola to our Fulham family!

“Alphonse has experience at the very highest level, as he’s played in France’s national team, won the league title with PSG, had success at RC Lens, Bastia and with Villarreal, and most recently he played for Real Madrid as they won La Liga last season.

“We’re excited that he’s joining us, and he’ll be an excellent addition to our squad as for our Premier League campaign ahead! Come on Fulham!”
