AS Monaco have rejected a €25 million bid from Manchester United for Benoit Badiashile, according to Mohamed Bouhafsi.

Manchester United Make Move for Benoit Badiashile

Martial-Like Offer Needed

Manchester United have had a relatively quiet start to the transfer window, however, news has emerged that a bid has been submitted and rejected for 19-year-old French defender Benoit Badiashile.

It appears United have foreseen a bargain with the Frenchman, though, Monaco, like most other recipients of transfer offers from Old Trafford, are not going to lie down and accept their opening offer.

Bouhafsi claims a source close to Monaco says it will take a ‘Martial-like, unrefusable bid’ for the French side to accept United’s advances.

Anthony Martial joined Manchester United from AS Monaco ahead of the 2015/16 season, for around £36m, potentially rising to £58m.

New Monaco boss Niko Kovac has told the Ligue 1 side not to accept any bids for the defender.

Manchester United face competition from German outfit Bayer Leverkusen, who have been in talks to sign Badiashile for weeks, and intend to return with a new offer.

Defensive Addition Ideal

It’s relatively surprising to see the Red Devils pursuing a young defender in Badiashile, 19. With Victor Lindelof‘s form up for debate and the current situation regarding Harry Maguire, who’s performances have also been questionable at times. It looks as though United could, ideally, do with another senior option at the back.

For Manchester United to be making such an offer they have obviously identified talent in Badiashile. If he is ready for the first-team at Old Trafford, as he has been at Monaco, then he may be able to help United strengthen up at the back and have a long-term future at the club.

Badiashile has a lot of senior football to his name for his age though. So he could be a credible option.

Scoring in the Opening Game of 2020/21

Badiashile made 20 appearances in 2019/20, not his first campaign either. Only contributing to three clean sheets for Monaco in what was a difficult Ligue 1 season for the club, who finished ninth.

Monaco have already started their 2020/21 campaign and Badiashile actually scored the equalising goal in Monaco’s 2-2 draw with Stade Reims in Sunday’s season opener.
