Kieran Trippier, a key figure in Gareth Southgate’s 2018 England campaign, has been linked with a stunning move to Aston Villa.

REPORT: Kieran Trippier Linked With Aston Villa Move

Is Kieran Trippier a Good Move for Villa?

This is according to reports from the Telegraph and Birmingham Mail. Trippier, 29, played 33 games this season for Atlético Madrid.

The Bury born right-back became Atleti’s first English player in 95 years. He signed a three contract and still has two more seasons left to play.

Villa conceded 67 goals in the Premier League last year; they used a combination of Frederic Guilbert, Ahmed Elmohamady and Ezri Konsa at right-back throughout their campaign.

Trippier would be an ideal transfer for Villa. He would bring some much needed Premier League experience and stability to the right side of their defence.

Villa midfielder, Conor Hourihane, said this week that there “was no hiding away” from the fact that Villa need to improve their squad to avoid another relegation battle.

With 114 games in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley, the England defender would be a coup for Villa if they were able to tempt him back to the Premier League. It would also make a statement of intent to other clubs fighting down in the bottom half of the table.

Villa are yet to make a senior signing. Their efforts to sign Milot Rashica have stalled and an official bid for Ollie Watkins of Brentford is yet to be tabled.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa are continuing to build their academy with the signing of the highly-rated Ben Chrisene from Exeter City.
