Jadon Sancho said he is ‘very happy’ to be playing at Borussia Dortmund this season.

It comes after Dortmund Sporting Director, Michael Zorc, ended speculation over Sancho’s move to Manchester United earlier this week.

Sancho: “I’m Really Happy”

Sancho spoke to the media following Dortmund’s 6-0 friendly win over Austrian side SCR Altach yesterday.

The 20-year-old forward explained his enjoyment from playing with the young squad at Dortmund. Speaking to Sky Sports, Sancho said: “I love playing with this lot. This is a special bunch and we have some special young players coming up.

“I am really happy to be sharing the same pitch with them and guide them because I was in their shoes and I know how it is for them.”

Leadership Role for Sancho at Dortmund

With several young players in the Dortmund squad, including new arrival and fellow countryman, Jude Bellingham, Sancho was asked about if he is becoming a leader within the team.

Sancho said: “Yeah, obviously I joined when I was 17 years old and some of these lads are 16, 17 years old.

“I’ve been there and done that. I’m just trying to guide them, what’s good and what’s not good, and hopefully motivate them as well.”

Both Sancho and Bellingham completed 45 minutes in the match. Bellingham played a part in Erling Braut Haaland’s second goal with a backheel assist.

Sancho Joins Squad for Pre-Season

Sancho flew out to Switzerland earlier this week to join his team-mates for their pre-season preparations.

This ultimately ends any transfer with Manchester United and was confirmed by Michael Zorc on Monday.

Dortmund’s Sporting Director said: “We plan on having Jadon Sancho in our team this season, the decision is final. I think that answers all our questions.”

Zorc also revealed Sancho signed a contract extension last summer. He said: “Last summer, we adjusted Jadon’s salary to match the development of his performances. So in context, we had already extended his contract until 2023 back then.”

United reportedly grew frustrated with the slow negotiations over Sancho. The club was also unwilling to pay Dortmund’s £108 million asking price for the 20-year-old.
