Positive Coronavirus Case Confirmed by Barcelona

Not Part of Champions League Squad

The player was not part of the squad that has travelled to Portugal for the final stages of the Champions League.

A club statement reads: “Following PCR tests conducted this Tuesday afternoon on the group of nine players due to begin the preseason today, one of them has tested positive for COVID-19. The player has no symptoms, is in good health and has been quarantined at his home.

“The club has reported the matter to the relevant sporting and health authorities. All persons who have been in contact with the player have been tracked to perform the corresponding PCR tests.

“The player has not been in contact with any of the senior team players who are scheduled to travel to Lisbon this Thursday to compete in the Champions League.”

One of Nine Players Beginning Pre-Season Training

Barcelona are already planning for next season, as a small cohort of their squad have begun training for the new campaign.

The majority of these players are those who are on the fringes of the first-team squad. However, none of them are part of the squad that will face Bayern Munich on Friday.

Coronavirus cases are slowly rising in Spain. Yesterday, August 11, saw 3,632 new cases recorded in the country. Furthermore, Catalonia is one of the hot spots for the virus.

As a result, it means the unnamed player will self-isolate in accordance with guidelines.

Huge Chance at Winning the Champions League

The one-legged Champions League ties will offer Barcelona an excellent chance at winning the competition.

Should they beat Munich on Friday, then they would face one of Manchester City or Lyon in the semi-finals.
