Scottish Government Threatens to Pause Top-Flight Action

What Has Happened?

The Celtic defender is at the heart of the issue after it was revealed he had travelled to Spain, which currently has quarantine measures in places for those in the United Kingdom.

However, Bolingoli did not quarantine upon his return to the country. The 25-year-old then subsequently featured in their 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock.

The club is insistent that they were not aware of his actions.

Celtic Statement

Celtic have issued a statement on their official website, condemning the actions of the 25-year-old.

It reads: “Celtic Football Club unreservedly condemns and apologises for the behaviour of the player Boli Bolingoli in travelling to Spain without informing the club and in failing to observe quarantine restrictions.

“It is difficult to imagine a more irresponsible action in current circumstances and we find it beyond explanation. The Club will take immediate action through our own disciplinary procedures.

“Celtic are in touch with every SPFL club today, and with all relevant authorities, to apologise for the fact that one of our employees has created so much additional difficulty through his actions.

“All of our playing and backroom staff have been tested twice for Covid-19 since this incident and all, including the player in question, have tested negative. While this comes as a relief to all concerned, it in no way diminishes the seriousness or stupidity of the player’s actions.”

Third Incident of the Season

As a result, the Scottish Government is now considering bringing the season to a halt following the Celtic defender’s actions.. The incident with Bolingoli is the third since the season began on August 1.

Two Aberdeen players tested positive for COVID-19 last week. However, it was revealed that a gathering had taken place at a venue in the city following their defeat to Rangers.
