Chris Basham Extends His Contract With Sheffield United

Vital Part of the Blades Defence

The 32-year-old has played a vital part in the Blades defence since joining in 2014.

He has been transformed under current manager Chris Wilder, with United boss moving him into defence as part of 3-5-2 system at Bramall Lane.

Basham has proved to be a reliable member of the Sheffield United squad, making close to 300 appearances in his six years with the club.

Last season saw him become a prominent member of Chris Wilder’s squad, featuring in all 38 Premier League games for the Blades, as they finished ninth in the top-flight.

It capped off a remarkable spell for Basham and the club since Wilder’s arrival. He has made over 40 appearances in each of the last three season’s for United, as they have risen from League One to the Premier League.

What Was Said?

Speaking to the official Sheffield United website, Basham said: “I’m delighted the deal has been agreed and signed off. I’m looking forward to the future, working with the manager and helping pushing the club on further.

“We’re all striving for the same thing, starting with the manager and throughout the club, we all have the same ambitions and same goals.

“There is a genuine togetherness within the group and obviously that makes you want to remain part of this journey, we certainly think there is much more to come.

“The club has backed us since day one and that has continued throughout our rise to the Premier League, now we are here we want to improve further and that is the focus ahead of returning for pre-season later this month.”

He joins David McGoldrick and Billy Sharp in signing new deals at Bramall Lane.
